Shoot One

Within my first shoot, I think that I have taken some successful, creative images which I have thought about substantially when taking them. For each of the images i have tried to vary the angle of view and make each angle as creative as possible, I have also been successful on the composition of the image as I have set up all of the objects individually to get the best look possible for my shoot. Furthermore, the vibrancy is very basic, but this is purposeful so that all of the objects look the same and stand out equally. I have also tried to vary the focus on all of the images so that each image focuses on a different part of the set up. However, to improve this shoot, I could have tried to vary the lighting a bit more and consider the shutter speed of the camera as I did not think about these settings in the shoot. Also, I could have changed the positions on the objects in parts of the shoot inside of working around them, this would have given me more varied images to work with.

This image was taken with a plain background to allow the objects to stand out more in the foreground. This image is of jewelry within a jar and shows the jewelry overflowing, I have constructed this image with studio lighting and a plain studio background so that the viewer pays more attention to the foreground objects.. I have captured the image from a high angle of view to get a birds eye view of the objects, linking in with the lighting, I have overexposed this image as the corners of the image could have been brighter to bring out the full object in the image. Furthermore, I think the overall composition of this image is quite good, as I have thought well about the set up, when thinking about the background by making it plain and setting up the lighting so that it reflects of the jewelry. The contrast of this image is very simple, I have contrasted the foreground and background as the foreground is complex and the background is simple, also the vibrancy is not high as this image is full of the same colours which all link together. Also, I have tried to use the depth of field within this image as I have focused on the jewelry flowing out of the jar and made the jewelry in the bottom of the jar blurred, linking into the rule of thirds which I have also tried to do with the jar, the focused and unfocused jewelry.

The idea behind this image is that the jewelry represents memories overflowing from someone's thoughts and that the jewelry was inherited by a family member which brings back memories to the owner of the jewelry. Because the jewelry is in the jar, it illustrates that the memories are limited to a certain amount that the owner can remember, however they are still thinking of these memories which is why the jar is open and the jewelry is overflowing. By manipulating this image I have made it ‘black and white inferred’ making the image fit more with Mapplethorpe's idea of no colour, by taking the colour away and give it black and white effect it gives the image a more vintage look and fits in more with the ideas behind the objects and their layout.

This is another successful image from my first shoot, once again, I have focused on still life as the genre. You can see the depth of field in this image as I have only focused on the beads closest to the camera, this also links in with the rule of thirds as I have broken the image down into 3 parts, the beads that are in focus, the jar with the jewellery in, and the beads behind which are not in focus. With the image being still life, there is not really a location as it is also a close up image. Also for the saturation, I would say that the image holds quite warm colours which gives a positive atmosphere to the viewer. Alike the others, this image is not as colourful because of the objects that have been used, colour isn’t really appropriate. If I was to improve this image, I would try and get more of the objects in focus as the image may come across as unfocused to some people.

I also like this image because I have been creative about the angle of view, I have tried to vary the views so that each image looks like there is a different object being photographed. The idea of this image is the same as the rest in the shoot, that the jewellery represents memories flowing out of someone's mind, this is what the point of focus is for this image. I have focused on the beads coming out of the jar so that the idea is focused on these memories. The main contrast in this image is the focused jewellery and the unfocused jewellery, representing the important memories and the irrelevant memories. If I was to take this image again I would try and get more lighting into the image as I think that this image is slightly underexposed.

This is an example of one of my overlay experimentations, it is the first one I did an I think that it is successful because it shows the objects from different angles within one image. I think the close up birds eye view goes well with the front view of the overall object because it shows the same object looking like two different ones. The contrast in this image has been created by the manipulation of overlay, the close up of the object contrasts with the full length shot of all of the object allowing the view to see the object from different angles and in different ways. Within the manipulation of the two images, I have made the brightness of the images high so that the images look faded and the viewer will be able to see more of both image. Also, when glancing at the image, I would say that this image has quite cold, but faded colours making it have a low saturation. When looking at the atmosphere of the image, I think that it creates a positive, warm mood because the lighting in both layers of this image has had an effect on the jewellery in the image and has reflected off all the beads which I think will make the viewer look at the image in a more positive way. The subject of the image is also a contrast, as the viewer will look at both images as the subject, which contrast each other by the angle of view and the closeness of each image. I think this image works well because the images within the overlay, although they are different, work well together. If I was to do this overlay with these images again, I would change the position of the birds eye view image and place it more in the center of the final image

Ideas to Progress:

I think that overall, my first shoot has been a success as to all the things I have taken into account when taking, manipulating and analysing the images. I think that when taking the images, I have done well because I have thought about different points of focus for the objects I was shooting, linking in with the depth of field and rule of thirds in which I have also tried to experiment with in the image I have taken. I have also took into consideration the variation of angles within the photos as I have taken the images from various angles to get a variation of different photographs, but of the same objects. I also think I have achieved good photo manipulations, as I have experimented and developed my skills of overlaying images, which I have had no previous experience of. I have also manipulated photos to change the colour and texture of the image to create more effects to the viewer.

Taking all of this into consideration, for my next shoot, I am going to progress my editing more images to improve their quality. Also, I am going to take images with more genre variations. I am going to try to collect landscape and portrait images so that I have experimentation with different genres. I plan to manipulation my portrait and landscape images and overlay them also, but I am going to try and overlay only certain parts of the images. I am also going to base my 2nd shoot on memories, but this time I am going to be more specific as to whose memories they are as I am going to base the memories on the memories of the model in the portrait images.
