Daniele Buetti was born in Fribourg (Switzerland) in 1955, and is a Swiss visual art working with various media, principally installation and intervention. His work includes photography, video, sound, drawing, sculpture and digitally assisted work. Buetti is well know for “tattooing” his photos with pinpricks, so that when the light shines through, the image is a complete new design and this is what I am going to use to inspire and develop my ideas.

This example of Buetti’s work illustrates the impact in which the pin pricks can have on an image, by adding extra properties to this portrait it has allowed it to have more of an impact on the viewer. I think this piece links to beneath the surface because the portrait shows the models face and her ‘shown’ feelings, but the pin pricks could illustrate her hidden emotions, as Buetti has made it look like the model is crying and this could show that, deep down she is sad but on the top she acts like everything is okay. I would interpret the lighting of the image as studio lighting and has been positioned so that the viewer focuses on more of the right hand side of the models face rather than the left.

I also like this example of Buetti’s work because the pinpricks give the impression that there is something in the hand when actually there is nothing there. Furthermore, I think it is a good idea because the original image is dark with dull colours and this makes the shining pinpricks stand out a lot more which also shows the viewer that this is the intended main point of focus. Alike most of Buetti's images, the pinpricks make a boring image look very creative and eye catching. This example links to beneath the surface because the pinpricks give the illusion that they are beneath the surface of the closed hand.

Finally, I also like this example of the pinpricks effect, as the pinpricks on this image also so the inner feelings of the model. I also like the fact that the background is covered with the pinpricks and it gives the viewer something else to look at when observing the image. The lighting in this image illustrates that the photographer was focusing on the left side of the models face making it the first thing that the viewer would look at. With the pinpricks manipulation of the image, I would say that the main point of focus is the teary effect coming from the models eyes as Buetti has tried to show the models emotions through the effect. Like the rest of the images, the back and white/sepia effect allows the pinpricks to stand out more giving the image more of an eye catching effect.
